Core Web Vitals in 2026: what actually moves the needle

Core Web Vitals in 2026: what actually moves the needle — cover

Every month someone asks us whether they need a new website to “fix SEO”. Usually they do not. Most slow sites suffer from the same handful of problems, and fixing them takes days, not months.

1. Images are still the biggest win

Serving modern formats at the right size cut Largest Contentful Paint by an average of 1.1 seconds across our audits. Lazy-load everything below the fold — but never the hero image.

2. Third-party scripts are the silent killer

Chat widgets, heatmaps and four different analytics tags add up. We removed an average of six scripts per site without losing anything the client actually used.

3. Fonts deserve attention

Self-host your fonts, preload the one used above the fold and subset them. It sounds small; it often saves 300 ms.

Speed is a feature. Your customers notice it long before Google does.

What did not matter much

  • Minifying already-small CSS files
  • Switching hosting providers without fixing the front end
  • Chasing a perfect 100 score at the cost of features

If you want us to look at your site, send us a brief — we will tell you honestly whether you need a rebuild.
